AMR Budget Kit

Our Budget carbureted AMR based kit is designed to work on 40/50/60hp upright style Type 1 engines.

This is a reissue of the very first kit we built back in 2013. It is aimed at the budget conscious who want an easy DIY solution without the hassle of having to make their own parts. You get the same quality as our higher performance kits but at a fraction of the price.

Manifolds have rounds ports to help keep costs down. These are the same sized round ports used by our competitors on their top shelf products, so you can expect to make the same power at a fraction of the cost.

The kit is designed to work with an aftermarket serpentine belt setup and standard AMR500 pulley to give an output of approximately 6psi. We don't supply the serpentine pulleys so you can save money by sourcing those yourself or by using what you already have.

The tee manifold is sized matched to both dual and single-port end castings. Steel parts have a basic paint coating for corrosion protection. This kit ships with the following items:

  • All-in-one uprated high flow tee manifold.
  • S&S inlet manifold
  • Supercharger stand
  • High pressure silicone hoses
  • High pressure hose clamps
  • Throttle cable kit
  • Gasket set
  • Fittings

The budget kit is available in two different specification levels

Stage 1 - The mounting bracket is a simplified version that does not include the belt tensioner so you can use the belt tensioner that came with your serpentine kit and save some money.

Stage 2 - The mounting bracket is fitted with our standard tensioner arm and is supplied with a drive belt that will work with standard AMR pulley sand serpentine kit. (NOTE PK4 is supplied as standard. If you want a PK5 belt leave a note at checkout)

Fitment Notes

  • The kit is designed to be installed on 40/50hp engines and will fit beetles, busses and other body styles.
  • The kit can also be used on later 60hp style engines if used with a generator or easy access alternator. It is also possible to modify a standard alternator.
  • The kit will fit under the decklid of a bug
  • A small modification is required to your distributor to limit overall advance. Instructions are provided.
  • The uprated tee manifold requires some minor clearancing to the generator stand.
  • The kit can be installed with a vee belt setup, however this is far from ideal as the available grip from the vee belt is limited and will generally result in belt slip even at low boost levels. Our recommendation is to use a serpentine belt setup.
  • We recommend our 'Performance' kit for higher capacity and higher boost applications as the square manifolds of the performance kit flow more which results in less heat, more flow and higher boost. The performance kit also has a drive system better suited to high boost applications.

Please Note:

  • This kit does not include the blower, carburettor or serpentine pulleys. Suitable carburettors are available to purchase separately.
  • This product is made to order and is subject to manufacturing lead time.
  • To find out what the current lead time is, please check the lead time page.

Add one of our S&S style carburettors to your order and save $$ !!!

Performance Advantage

Read about what makes our performance kit the best performing AMR kit on the market

You can order this kit without a drive system. This allows you to use your existing serpentine drive setup and run a single drive belt. This works well for low boost applications of 5-6psi

If targeting higher boost levels we recommend that you consider running a dedicated blower drive.

Our dedicated blower drive system features a dual belt drive system, which utilises a dedicated PK6 blower drive, to eliminate slip, and overcome the excessive blower load on generator and alternator bearings found with single belt serpentine setups.

The stock vee belt is retained to drive the generator / alternator

Our Stage 1 kits feature the same 2" round ports copied by our competitors. These work great on mild boost levels of 5-6 psi

Our Stage 2 and 3 kits feature square manifold ports that match the AMR superchargers port shape. The square ports help to reduce adiabatic heating and parasitic load by providing 40% more flow area than the standard 2" round ports.  This helps you to make the most of the available boost from your AMR500 and lowers the detonation risk by reducing intake temps.

Our Stage 2 and 3 options are the way to go if you want to target higher boost levels

Our high flow tee manifold has a 50% larger flow area than the stock manifold and will connect to both dual and single port end castings as well as CB EFI manifolds. Our elongated tee junction helps to keep fuel suspended in the intake charge and not get separated out of suspension, which is a common issue with merged 'Y' bends.

Merged Y bends are unnecessary on forced induction setups, where the charged is pushed through the system. They only offer a performance advantage on normally aspirated engines where the charged is sucked through the system by the pistons.

Y bends also allow reversion waves to travel back up the manifold in opposition to the direction of flow. In contrast, a Tee manifold acts as an acoustic baffle; the sharp junction scatters and dampens the reversion pulse, preventing it from interrupting the incoming flow from the supercharger.

Our new dual serpentine drive features a dedicated PK6 drive belt for the blower and a second PK drive belt for the generator / alternator replacing the stock vee belt with a dedicated PK4 Drive

Our hideaway manifold setup features an angled inlet manifold and revised supercharger stand, that moves the carburettor tight against the fan shroud and alternator to allow the decklid to close without the need for decklid standoffs when this kit is fitted to a bug.

The one caveat with using this setup is that if you use an alternator, you must use an 'easy access' alternator or modify your existing alternator to remove or relocate the main terminal.
